Conferences and Chapters

There are often misconceptions regarding Conferences and Chapters, as each area may be in either a Conference, Chapter or both.

Conferences

Each jurisdiction (such as New York State) has its own method of administration.  New York has chosen a Conference system.  These conferences are used to assist in the administration of the New York State Council.   Conferences are not recognized by the Supreme Council, established by agreement with the leaders across New York State.    The items which typically flow through the conferences are:

  • District Deputy recommendations
  • Board of District Deputies administration
  • State Officer nominations
  • Appointments by the State Deputy  

There are three Major Conferences and 12 Minor Conferences

Chapters

Chapters are entities formed upon approval by the Supreme Council Board of Directors.  Their purpose to provide charitable works which an individual council is unable to perform.

Information relating to Chapters is part of the Supreme by-laws in Section 242.  Chapters shall consider matters relating as a whole to the well-being and promotion of the Order and its objectives in the locality.  

Within New York, there are 11 Chapters, The table below reflects the various areas in New York State, and their association with Chapters and Conferences.  Every council in New York State is associated with a Conference, and most are associated with a Chapter.
