About the NYS Council
The New York State Council and it's Councils, Assemblies and Columbiettes are committed to the exemplification of charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism and to the defense of the priesthood. Our order is consecrated to the Blesses Virgin Mary and is firmly committed to the protection of human life, from conception to natural death, and to the preservation and defense of the family. Our order's central vision is to engage in charitable works, to serve the Church, to support brother Knights, to act for the good of our country, and to give aid to those in need.
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practicing Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who are at least 18 years old. A practicing Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church. Your Way to Success in Five Easy Steps
The Star Council Award recognizes the efforts that Councils put forth in continuing Blessed Michael McGivney’s mission. Our Goal this year is to have EVERY Council in NYS be a STAR COUNCIL. We know the Councils are doing the work, it’s only a matter of checking off the boxes and filling out the forms.
Here is a ROAD MAP to help you get there!
Earn The Columbian Award For Quality Faith-Filled Family Programs.
To earn the award a council must submit the Columbian Award Application (#SP-7), listing a total of 16 program credits to earn the Columbian Award. Faith in Action Featured Programs count for two credits. All other council programs count for one. Councils must also submit the Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity (#1728) and the Report of Officers Chosen for the Term (#185). It is very important that Councils make sure to send a copy of ALL of their submitted forms to their District Deputy!!
Earn The Father Mcgivney Award For Membership Growth.
Your council must meet or exceed its membership growth quota to be eligible. Your council’s membership quota is listed on Officers Online, under the Membership tab.
Earn The Founders’ Award For Insurance Growth
Host / promote at least two Fraternal Benefit Events — By June 30. The required sum total attendance of members, or member eligible men, at these events must equal or exceed: 10 for councils with 99 or fewer members, 14 for councils with 100 or more members. Councils must also submit Form (#11077) due within 7 Days of Seminar.
Be Compliant With Training And Background Checks.
Start by completing the Service Program Personnel Report (#365). This form allows Knights’ safe environment partner to contact council members who need training and background checks. Once contacted, recipients must complete the training and background check authorization within 30 days.
Remain Current With Assessments From The Supreme Council.
Your assessments can be found on the Member Management/Member Billing section of Officers Online. Check out the Knights of Columbus Leadership Resources (#5093) for details
